I the Cassie Perkins series for my daughter because it's a real, yet wholesome, slice of teenage life. Cassie comes from a not-so-perfect family, and she feels all the things that teenage girls feel. A great role model for Christian girls.

As a native of Fort Worth and a military historian I have always been highly intrigued by the history of the early Fort. I was very pleased with the previous title "The Fort That Became a City" by Selcer and Potter...but it left many gaps and questions about the soldiers and social history. Dr. Perkins extensive research of primary sources had fill those gaps! It not only paints a most amazing picture of Ft. Worth itself, but the entire Texas Military Frontier of the early 1850's! To include but not limited too the most complete account of the "Mounted Infantry Experiment" and some most amazing documentation on the issue of Walker Colt's that any firearms historian MUST read!...he then deals with various para-military and non-military topics of the area and era such as the socialist communes on North Texas and the Texas Rangers and military that protected the Texas settlers during the 1840's and Mexican War (very neglected topics). There are chapters that even cover the biographical histories of the key figures. All in all this is a most exceptional book and I can not recommend it enough! My favorite part was a letter from the post quartermaster noting he can't get the regulation beans and flour for rations easily and asks if he might substitute Corn Meal (for bread) and Blackeyed Peas...MMMMMMMMMMM good ole' southern food!

The photos are just lovely and lyrical and interesting. It is a fascinating view of Japan that I never saw before.

A real page turner, God, Sherryl and Me is an extraordinary story of the triumph of the human spirit and divine intervention. It is reality tv on paper. This book reveals how miracles do happen and God is real and active in our lives. Often we try to be the pilot of our lives and heaven has other plans. The Gordon and Sherryl Perkins story leads us through their heartaches and triumphs. I was captivated by the very detailed telling of each experience they had. I highly recommend this book!

This book is a wonderful Continuation of the story of Haffertee Hamster Diamond, a stuffed hamster lovingly made by the mother of a little girl named Diamond Yo when her pet hamster died. It is a wonderful way to share the message of God's love with your little ones. I loved this series as a little girl and love it even more as I share it with my children.

The Haffertee Hamster series published by Lion Press is a wonderful series. Delightful illustrations, the story is a charming children's fantasy, based in a loving family, the Diamonds. I am amazed that it is still not published. Our family read the series aloud and laughed and cried with the Diamond Family over the adventures and misadventures of Haffertee. Of course, the stories are for young children but I remember them fondly as well because with all the sweetness there was also food for thought. Easter and Christmas are explored and explained in a NEW way but still biblical and Christian. I wouldn't part with my six beaten pb books: HAFFERTEE STARTS SCHOOL, HAFFERTEE'S FIRST CHRISTMAS, HAFFERTEE GOES EXPLORING, HAFFERTEE'S FIRST EASTER, HAFFERTEE HAMSTER'S NEW HOUSE, AND HAFFERTEE HAMSTER DIAMOND (the first in the series). I would highly recommend then to any family, even those who may not celebrate Christmas or Easter, they are that good.

Beginners will love The Harper Handbook. My edition is just over 600 pages, chock-full of information. The handbook alphabetically references terms that relate to literature, from terms you know (metaphor) to those you might not (prosopopoeia). The explanations it gives are concise, but very helpful, often with examples. For example, if the book is discussing pastoral dramas, it gives a list of six plays, with publication dates and playwrights. In the back of the book there is a "Chronology of Literature and World Events" that puts a date on many events in the world, Britain, and the US. There's also an index of people mentioned in handbook entries.
